Archie Gilbert Named Eastern League Player of the Week!!!

Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators are pleased to announce that outfielder Archie Gilbert has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of May 2nd to May 8th. Gilbert becomes the first player to win the player of the week award for the Sens this year. Earlier this season, Brad Peacock won the pitcher of the week award.

The 27-year-old outfielder started the week 0 x 7 against Bowie, then went on a roll. He homered in the game on Thursday morning at Bowie, then after going 0 x 4 on Friday, he went 7 x 12 combined on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday night, he went 4 x 4 with two home runs, his second four-hit game of the season. On Sunday, he hit two more home runs and had three hits. For the week, Gilbert hit five home runs and now has seven on the season.

The Nationals signed Gilbert as a minor league free agent on 12/15/10. He had previously been with the Boston Red Sox and Oakland A's organizations. He was a California League Mid-Season All-Star in 2008. In 2005, he was the male athlete of the year at California State University East Bay and set a school record with a 36-game hitting streak.
